The three most common signs of a bent rim are: a slow tire leak with no visible puncture, a steering-wheel or seat vibration that gets worse with speed, and uneven tire wear on one wheel. A visible flat spot or scuff on the wheel lip after hitting a pothole is also a clear indicator. Bring the wheel in for a dial-indicator runout check.

For most aluminum and steel wheels, straightening is just as safe as replacement and costs a fraction of the price. Wheels are straightened with hydraulic pressure and controlled gentle heat, then re-measured with a dial indicator and balanced. If a wheel cannot be brought back within safe tolerance, we will tell you before you spend money on a repair that will not hold.

At True Wheel in Culpeper, bent rim straightening starts at $175 for wheels under 22 inches and $200 for wheels 22 inches and larger. Rebalancing is included, not added on. The maximum wheel size we straighten is 26 inches. Mail-in service is available for customers outside Culpeper, Fredericksburg, Warrenton, Charlottesville, Manassas, and Front Royal.

Most single-wheel straightening jobs are completed while you wait, typically within about an hour. If you cannot stay, drop-off straightening is finished within 24 hours. A properly straightened rim is as strong as a factory rim, but it can bend again under a new impact, the same as any wheel. If a straightened wheel later hits a pothole or curb hard enough to bend, that is new damage and requires a new straightening service. Our 10-year limited warranty covers workmanship, not new impacts.
